Belonging

I love the feeling of belonging. All humans do. It is in our nature to be a part of something bigger, something larger than the self, and this gives us happiness. I am very fortunate to belong to many things, and I'd like to discuss them with you, and how each experience is unique and worthwhile (or not?).

School

I love belonging to a portion of my school community. My friends are wonderful, and I vaguely know many nice people, but there are some people in my school I definitely do not like. I also just generally feel higher levels of anxiety in school than other places.

Science Olympiad

I love the Science Olympiad team at my school, well, most of them. A lot of my good friends are on the team, and most of the people represent the kind of person I want to be. There are some people I don't necessarily like, but that doesn't matter so much.

Dance

My dance class I one place I feel completely comfortable. I am friends with everyone in my dance class, and I love my teachers. Dance is probably the community I belong in most, and I love it!

Orchestra

I feel connected to the orchestra and we work well together, but I don't feel the same kind of connection with my fellow orchestra members that I do with dance. I do love orchestra and most of the people in it.

Girl Scouts

I feel connected to my Girl Scout troop, but not necessarily the rest of the organization. I feel that GSUSA, and my council have done little to integrate my troop's community into the council. We just don't feel very connected to the intense bureaucracy that is Girl Scouts.

The Internet

This picture makes sense to Whovians. And I love the Internet, but I feel more like an observer than an active participator. However, I am perfectly comfortable with that role. And I know that if I did start doing a lot of things, people would support me.

The World at Large

I feel very disconnected with the world at large, and sometimes I try to connect. But mostly, I like being disconnected. The world is not a nice place to be, and I like to get away from that. My zen place is entirely populated by unicorns, so I tend to stay away from people.
